Valuable Recommendations Made to Show Committee

At tho conclusion of a comprehensive review, dealing with tho attendances and gate takings at tho recent Royal Slioav at Palmerston North, Mr W. Cl. Black (chairman of tho gate stewards) made the folloAving recoin-., mendations to .tho Manawatu and-West Coast A. and P. Association’s general eommiitteo on‘ Tuesday: —. ' "That the Waldegravc and Pascal street entranco gates bo permanently closed and triple entranco gates with a public turnstilo provided in Oakley street. There is considerable public dissatisfaction regarding the inability to gain admittance by the Waldcgravo and Pascal street entrances and thiis will continue as long as tho gates are there. As exhibits aro - year by year taking up moro of tho ground, public safety should bo given moro consideration, therefore moro efficient and rigid control through the entrance and exit gates of all types of vehicles is required and the provision of a stricter and moro popular car , parking system is essential. I believe that if Oakley street provides separate gates for stock admissions, trade , vehicles and exhibits, public motorists and pedestrians, that all traffic can be easily, strictly and efficiently controlled in the interests of everyone, including exhibitors. "That tho motorist’s name and number of each motor vehicle entering the grounds bo recorded .at the entrance gates ia order that the motorist’s licence to enter the grounds may be cancelled for failure to obey parking regulations. "That the ladies’ tickets granted to members for the Avinter and spring show be standardised on the lines of the Avinter slioav tickets, definitely limiting each lady to admissions nA'aileblo on one day or on any clay of the slioav. I submit- liercAvilli proofs of the tickets I recommend for adoption as members’ ami ladies’ tickets. "That a.' sub-committee comprising tho president, vice-president-, treasurer, tho chairman of each stock section, Mr T. A. Hastings and myself be set up to consider recommendations 1,2 and 3, and report tit the next general meeting.

"That the stadium charge be permanently fixed at 6d per head, except in the case of a special attraction. "That the suggestion from the N.Z. Dairy Factory Association, that factory managers be admitted on their invitation cards, be opposed, and that, the present system of exchanging imitation cards for complimentary tickets on presentation of tho cards and identification of the holder be continued. "That the west entrances to both grandstands bo closed and no gatekeepers provided. This Avouid dispense with the services of four men and on a basis of seven days show per annum would save £24 10s in AA'ages. The total takings at the recent Spring and Winter show at these entrances Avas substantially less than the amount paid in gatekeepers’ Avages. ,■ "I have the following observations to make,” ho added:

(1) That further efforts be made to obtain the support of the . city shopkeepers to close on tAvo half days. This was done satisfactorily in 1924 and 1926

(2) That it is inadvisable to continue the Soring slioav for four days when tho stock is not on the ground on the fourth day; unless, there is somo striking ring attraction on tho fourth day, the expenses of such day arc not justified by the support extended at the recent shoAV.

3) That the former time-table of closing at 5, Tc-opcning at 7, and closing again at 10 p.m. be reverted to. At the recent slioav the hours observed were, closed 5.30 to 7 p.m., finally closed 10.30 p.m. Public comment and results did not seem to justify this departure.

(4) That no permits be granted to any individual or any society to sell art union tickets cither on the ground or from any stall. The association depends upon the good will of its patrons and tho public who come to sec the show aro irritated and annoyed by the frequent demands on them to buy tickets.

"My thanks arc due to Mr Hastings and those stewards aa - lio assisted me throughout the currency of the shoAV, and to Mr. D. F. Smillio and the gate staff for their services and co-opera-tion,” lie concluded.
