World’s Greatest Golfer

The more often one sees Joyce Wethcred play golf the nearer one comes to the conviction that R. T. Jones was right when he acclaimed her as the world’s greatest golfer (says a writer in an English paper). In the mixed foursomes tournament which she won for the sixth time, on this occasion with Raymond Oppenheimer, she appeared to play with such unconcern that her golf did not look even impressive. But perfection is the only standard hy which Miss Wcthered’s golf is judged in these days, and if she plays a full shot which does not finish a few feet from the hole we are inclined to consider it an indifferent shot for her. She seldom does the obvious because apparently she is blessed with a foresight and skill which the majority of players cannot command. While Oppenheimer contributed his full share to the victory of his side, it was certainly the power of Miss Wetliered that decided the matches. Proof of that is in the fact that she generally plays with a different partner and has been beaten . in only one final—in the opening year, ...when she played with her brother. # # # ""The Glamorgan County Cricket Club is having one trouble after another.
