School Committeemen in Conference

Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The national conference of the School Committees’ Association concluded today. It adopted the Otago remit that when it was considered advisable to take group proficiency examinations the cost of transit of country pupils to the various centres should be a charge on the department. A remit from Wellington urging the reinstatement of the weekly board allowance paid to country children where scholars arc compelled to live away from home was also adopted. It was agreed to ask tho Minister to give every consideration to the renewal of the freo school railway tickets formerly issued to children for weekly or less frequent, use for returning to their homes. It was pointed out that the cancellation order issued by the Director of Education had recently been modified.

Following tho report of the sub-com-mittee it was unanimously agreed to support the principle of a national federation of school committees. Draft rules, on the basis of the South Island Federation, are to bo submitted to school committees for approval.
