The marine damage done by the typhoon, includes tho naval aircraft carriers Hofho and Ryujo and the cruisers Asagiri and Ikazuchi which were driven ashore and badly damaged at Yokosuka.

In Shimidzu Harbour tho Kirishuna Maru took rofugo but dragged her anchor and lay broadside to tho waves. Thirteen were washed overboard, the spectators ashore watching helplessly while tho ship broke up. In tho samo region tho Motonasa Maru lost 37 of her crew of 43. Tho Unkai Maru lost 20 drowned and a cruiser picked up 10. Minor wrecks are not counted.

At Ito, devastated by tho earthquake in 1930, 575 houses were destroyed, aJso tho breakwater, costing 100,000 yen. The wind had a velocity of 79 miles and was the most violent for 30 years.

The official casualties iu seven prefectures are 53 dead, 46 injured and 62 missing, probably drowned. Five thousand houses havo been demolished and several steamers lost. Tho Fukushima prefecture reports 150 fishermen dead or missing.
