Notes of the Day

“ We haven’t had a tag now for over eight years and I think we can congratulate our clerk on the manner in which the count}’- accounts are kept,” said Cr. L. T. McLean (chairman) at yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council, when receiving the audited balance sheet of tho county for the year ended March 31 last. The reference to Mr. W. L. Hesseltine was supported by the council generally. .Representatives of tho Feilding Agricultural High School, Feilding Chamber of Commerce, A. and P. Association, Farmers’ Union and the primary schools of Feilding will meet this evening to discuss the question of unemployment amongst, the youth of the town and district. It is realised that some organised effort is required to deal with the problem and the meeting of this committee may result in some practical scheme being evolved to keep tho youth in Feilding and district from remaining idle. “Pretty arbitary attitude,” remarked Cr. W. Hair at yesterday's meeting of the Kiwitea County Council, when a letter from the Pahiatua County Council set out that the Health Department had refused to supply the county with particulars of the contributions made by local bodies for the services of the district health officer. The letter explained that the Pahiatua county was now in the health district served by Palmerston North and the application for the required information had been refused. The Kiwitea County Council decided to supply particulars of the levy paid by it for the health officer's services.

Letters were received at yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council from settlers of the district applying for relief labour to clear noxious weeds from their property. It was agreed to forward the letters on to the Kimbolton Unemployment Committee for consideration.
