Fines Inflicted
MAGISTRATE'S COURT PROCEEDINGS Edward Tunnyclilfc, charged with aiding and abetting a person to give a false namo and address, pleaded not guilty in the Palmerston North Alagistrate’s Court yesterday. Sergeant Hill, in evidence, said that on Alarch 26 ho visited an hotel in Palmerston North, finding eight men in a room, drinking liquor. One man gave his namo as Scott and an address as 218 Willis street, Wellington. Defendant vouched for the name and address being correct, but inquiries showed that both were falsie. Witness said he had warned defendant of the penalty he would be liable to if the name and address were found not to bo correct. , Constable Arnold gavo evidence in corroboration. Defendant said ho had known Scott for a number of years. Defendant said he could not prove that tho man’s name was not Scott.A fine of £2, with 10/ costs, was imposed. Defendant stated that ho wished to appeal, but was informed that he could not. Thomas R. Paul was fined 10/, with 10/ costs, for riding a bicycle at night without a light.
