Work for Future on Flock House Scheme
“During the year a new (and so far unexploitcd) avenue of assistance to ex-service men has been considered ahd adopted by the executive," states-the annual report of the Manawatu Patriotic Society. “This refers to the training of the sons of ex-members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force at the Flock House station. It is wellknown that this institution was originally available only to the sons of overseas sailors, but the question. of opening it to the sons of members, of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force was mooted by the Flock House trustees, and at a conference of interested bodies their suggestion was adopted, backed as it is by the promised subsidy of tnc Government. As to what expenditure this will involve, so far as the society is concerned, it is not possible to say at present because each district lias a limited quota of trainees, but it is anticipated that the cost to our society should not be of such a size as to warrant a discontinuance. Especially at the present time it should afford some means of relieving the ex-service men of the training of their sons, and at the same time providing the sons with a means of livelihood for the future."
