Further Taxation; Fresh Economies
WHAT BRITAIN MAY EXPECT United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Monday, 9.50 p.xn. LONDON, May 23. The Daily Telegraph says that the House of Commons will reassemble to-day to consider the Finance Bill in committee, but there is a growing belief that the outlook will have to be reconsidered in the autumn, when fresh economies and fresh taxation may prove necessary. Accordingly, the Government aims at proroguing Parliament early in July to enable the exodus of Ministers to Ottawa. The new session will begin in October. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Neville Chamberlain, who has had a recurrence of gout while on holiday in the country, is at present confined to his bed, but hopes to be back in the Commons some time this week.
