P -‘Guide Week” is a birthday week and a celebration of the b«thday is always a great occasion Owing to economic conditions the plans to hold a big international rally in England have had to be cancelled but Imperial headquarters hopes that Guides throug out the world will consider the week as a special Guide week, keeping in front of them the ideal of service tor others, thus making the week a special week of service. Sunday, the 29th, is being kept throughout the Empire as Guido bunday, and Palmerston North will fall m line with other centres by holding the “Guides’ own” service. Special forms of service have been printed for the occasion and it i 3 hoped that in addition to Guides and Guidcrs there wilt be a good attendance of parents end friends. The annual sports meeting of tne Rongotca Guido Company was held at the school grounds on Friday last. There was a good attendance of parents and the committee served a dainty afternoon tea. The competition for the Smith Cup for most points gained by any one patrol was again won by the Swallow’s under the leadership of Rawi Davis, with 954 points. The Canary patrol obtained" 654 points, while Nightingale had 40 points. Other races resulted: —Mothers’ race: Mrs. Walker 1, Mrs. Caverhill 2, Mrs. Aird 3; children under 6 years: M. Fraser 1, L. Parker 2, G. Amy 3; 6 years to 12: S. Hughes I, E. Hunt 2, E. Amey 3; boys over 6: G. Sehneideman 2, K. Woods 2, P. Schneideman 3. Mrs. Caverhill (president) presented the Swallow' patrol with the Smith Cup and congratulated Rawi Davis on ner good leadership. She then wished the other patrols success in future sports meetings.

The afternoon was brought to a close with the 3inging of “Taps.”
