Testing the Valve Clearance
All car makers in their instructions are very definite in saying how much clearance should bo given. Very few tool kits include a gauge for valve clearances. The average clcaranco recommended, and one that can safely be used on nearly all cars, is six-thou-sandths of an inch. Without a gauge it is impossible to gauge this dimension, but it is handy to know that a Gilctte razoi blade is six'thousandths of an inch at its centre, and can be easily used for testing the clearances.
