Silencing Exposed Push-rods
A good way of silencing exposed push-rod overhead valve gear is to slip two pieces of brass tubing over tho ends of each 'push-rod and separate them with a light spring, each end of which bears up against a washer, resting against the inner extremities of the tubes; then place at- the other ends of the tubes hemispherical cups or felt washer containers, into which ;irc fitted thick felt washers. The washers become soaked with oil and effectively lubricate the points of contact between tho tappets and valve rockers and the pushrods, in addition to preventing the entrance of dirt, etc. As the felt pads arc. kept in constant contact with the hemispherical joints at each end of the push-rods, they help to stop noise or rattle:
