Takaro Girls’ Club Hold Jolly Children’s Party
Over 80 children spent a very happy time on Friday evening at a children’s party arranged by tho Takaro Girls’ Club. As proceedings advanced the company grew in numbers by the addition of a number of adults, and dances were included in the programme for their benefit. After the singing of the National Anthem, tho children, many of whom were in fancy dress, paraded in the grand march to pianoforte music supplied in the form of a duet by Mr. and Mrs. A. Barkwith. The programme thereafter was: Song, "Ten Little Takaro Boys,’’ by juvenile vocalists; game, “Lubin Loo’’; dance, “Finger Polka”; dance, "Sir Roger de Coverley”; game, “The Grand Old Duke of York”; waltz for adults; songs, Rev. P. Wiltshire; game, "Nuts in May”; song, Mr. Packer. Supper was partaken of and a happy time was brought to a conclusion with some danccj numbers for the older folks. The musicians who capably officiated at the piano for the various dance humbersand games were Mesdames Piorard and Barkwjjth and Messrs C. Penny and Barkwith, while Mr.' W. Hall, in the capacity of H.C,, kept proceedings moving merrily and to the complete satisfaction of all. Tho children who attended in fancy dross and the characters they represented were: Linda, Ross, witch; Joyce Densen, Chinese princess; Norma Packer, jingles; Betty Davis, gypsy fortune teller; Dorothy Wass, jester; Betty Wass, chicken; Freda Gilbcrd, cupid; Joy Dunstan, Fluffy' Ruffles; Ngaire Harper, sailor; Peggy Britton, Dutch girl; Beryl Crystal, jester; Lucettc Weame, bee; Colin Cull, old aged pensioner.—"lo per cent, cut”; Alan Cull, Rugby footballer; Gordon Atkins, Indian; Colin Barkwith, Robin Hood; Mary Hearsey, starlight fairy; Beverley Packer, spring awakening; Noel Packer, mechanic; Marjorie Graham, jingle bells; Mavis Dunstan, Alice Blue Gown; eßryl Barkwith, bridesmaid; June Barkwith, rosebuds; Billie Ross, Jackie Coogan, and oGrdon Atkins, Indian.
