Miss Ivy Wilson, the champion woman javelin thrower ( of Great Britain in 1923, who fought a beggar when he became impudent to her in her greengrocer's shop at Essex, has received some mixed criticism of her pugilistic display. At the Police Court the beggar declared that Mis» Wilson “set about him liko Tommy Burns.” Miss Wilson said in an interview that she had received a great many letters after the “fight.” One was from a woman who gave her a great wagging for using her fists. “To punch a man is unladylike,” said the writer, but Miss Wilson added that unladylike or not, she would do it again if necessary. Curiously enough the letters she received from men contained nothing but praise for her brave action. "
