From Our Own Correspondent. Miss Mudford, Eongotea, who has been spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs. It. Lind, Vance street, has returned home. • Miss Betty Blackwood's friend, Miss Jones, of Wellington, who has been stopping at Mangaore, has returned to Wellington. Mr. and Mrs. J. Aim and the Misses Aim who have been spending a fortnight at Paekakariki beach, returned home on Saturday. Mrs. If. V. Hudson has returned home from Paraparaumu beach. An unfortunate accident happened to Jackie, aged 7, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. 0. Young, Vance street, on Saturday morning. In falling off a fence at the salcyards he had the misfortuno to fracture his 1 collarbone. On Thursday evening a “watch night” took place at the Labour party's weekly card tourney. Seventy-two players took part and at the conclusion of play it was found that Mrs. T. Bopohama with 14 games was the winner in the ladies’ section, and Mr. J. Whiti, 12} games, the winner of the men’s section. The points prize for most games won during the ten nights’ play was awarded to Mrs. L. P. Jones and Mr. T. Leen. Points prizes will be given for the series which commences next Thursday evening. At the Mangaore 500 evening arranged by the Mangaore Social Club, there was an excellent attendance. Tho prize-winners were as follows: —Ladies, Mrs. Owen, Mrs. Guerin consolation; men, Mr. Ventry-Smith, and Mr. Martin consolation. .Advico has been received from the District Engineer, Public Works Department, that the Highways Board has approved of a £2 to £1 subsidy being made available to enable the council to complete the borough main Highways at a cost of £4OO. This work has since been completed. ’ The Borough Council has decided to fall in line with the remainder of tho boards owning football grounds in the Horowhenua district, and has decided to let the domain at a rental of 10 per cent, of the gross receipts of tho. gate takings.
