GOVERNORS OP TECHNICAL AND HIGH SCHOOLS MEET. Mr. W. L. Fitzherbcrt (chairman) presided at the monthly mooting of tho Palmerston North High Schools’ Board cf Governors and Technical school committee, held last evening. Other members present were: Mrs. M. Aiteliison, Messrs. J. A. Nash, M.P., W. F. Durward, J. W. Rutherfurd and T. R. Hodder. An apology for absence was received on behalf of Mr. M..H. Oram, who was granted leavo of absence. Technical School. Mrs. N. Currie wrote forwarding her resignation as instructor in first aid and home nursing, a position she ha 3 held for five years.—Tho resignation was accepted with regret and it was resolved to appoint Mrs. H. Essex to tho position. Monthly Report. Tho report submitted by Mr. G. G. Hancox (Director of the Technical School) was as follows:—• "Vacation: The first term for all classes concluded on May 0. The second term for evening classes commences on Monday, May 23, and for day classes • on Tuesday, May 24. "Classes: Good progress has been made during the past season by the beekeeping class, conducted for some of our pupils by Mr. D. S. Robinson, Government Apiary Instructor. We are indebted to the Department of Agriculture for placing Mr. Robinson’s services at our disposal without charge and to Mr. Jas. Young for permitting the class to visit and work with the hives.—lt was Tesolved to forward letters of thanks to Messrs. Robinson and Young. "Approval is sought for the resuming of the following classes where numbers warrant: Workshop running repairs (Saturday mornings, Massey College students), sheet metalwork (Monday afternoon, Massey Collego students), wool-classing, motor roadside repairs, cake decorating.—Tho necessary approval was granted. "Approval is sought for commencing classes in poultry-keeping for some of our day students, at Massey College, provided that satisfactory financial arrangements can bo made.—lt was decided to give tho proposed class a trial for a term. "Grounds: Good progress is being made with the levelling of tho girls’ yard. The motor mower requires a thorough overhaul." The report was adopted. Boys’ High School. The rector (Mr. John Murray) submitted the following report concerning the Boys’ High School:— "Roll number at end of term, 364; average attendance, 357. Of 11 boys who left during the term, 6 went to

positions and 5' were transferred to other towns. "Mr H. P. Glen resigned from the staff as from the end of the term. "Agricultural course: In order to widen tho curriculum in regard to agricultural science, representation .was mado to Professor Peren, of Mhssey College, for a series of lectures, and field and stock demonstrations to be held throughout the year. Professor Peren very willingly agreed and approved of a scries, submitted to him by Mr. Stevenson. Those taken during the past term were as follow: (1) lecture (illustrated by micro-slides and micro-photographs) by Mr. R. Waters, on bacteria and fungi in relation to agriculture; (2) field demonstration on the merits of super-phosphate and slag as dressing for dairy pastures. Also the use of nitrogenous fertilisers in pasture production, by Mr. F. L. C. Scrivener; (3) caro and treatment oi milk from the milking shed to tho factory, by Mr. McMcckan; (4) manufacture of butter and cheese, by Mr. Valentine; (5) demonstration on sheep witli special reference to the Romney and Southdown, by Mr. Allen; (6) lecture, by Dr. Allen, on methods adopted for the selection of New Zealand hemp. Also through the courtesy of the officers of the Plant Research Station of the Department of Agriculture, field demonstrations were given as follow: (1) Potato trials, disease and selection, by Mr. Claridge; (2) methods adopted for the improvement of the various supplementary fodder crops, by Mr. Hadfield. "Theso lectures and demonstrations have formed a valuable supplement to the regular agricultural course, and I wish to place on record the school’s appreciation of tho practical assistance rendered tho boys of the agricultural class by Professor Peren and his staff, and tho officers of the Research Station of the Department o Agriculture.” The report was adopted and tho secretary was instructed to forward letters of thanks and appreciation to Professor Peren and his staff and to the officers of the Research Station.
