Fexton

VALEDICTORY, From Our Own Correspondent. A very enjoyable social was held under the auspices of the Methodist Boys’ and Girls’ Bible Class, in tho Methodist Sunday schoolroom on Monday evening, when a pleasant time was spent with games and competitions. The winners of the competitions were as follorvs: Mr. Chandler, Mrs. Cowley and .Miss P. ttorson. During the evening opportunity was taken by members of the Methodist Church to bid farewell to Mr. Horace Martien, who left Foxton for Hastings on Wednesday, and who, during his stay locally, was oflicial organist to tho chjirch.

The Rev. 0. P. Liddell, in a brief speech, said that Mr. Martien had taken a place of honour in occupying tho scat which Mrs. Cowley, their stalwart standby, had filled for years past. They all realised that he had clone honour to tho position and rendered acceptable services. They hoped that when he moved on he would find another ■ organ to play and another church in which to render the valuable service he

had given to the Foxton Methodist Church. Mr. H. Osborne, on behalf of the church, also spoke in eulogistic terms of Ihc valuable services rendered by the guest of honour. He asked Mr. Martien to accept a token of esteem, from members of tho church and choir. Mr. Martien suitably replied, and said ho would pass on. to Hastings to tell good things of Foxton. Methodists. He sincerely thanked all for the appreciation that had been shown in connection with his services.

Mr. W. R. McKenzie (postmaster) forwarded an apology for absence and expressed the wish that Mr. Martien would render tho same satisfactory service to tho Hastings Post Office as he had to the local one. Supper was dispensed, after which the singing of “Auld Lang Sync” brought a pleasant- function in a close.
