FIVE-ASEDE TOURNEY. The Manawatu Hockey Association opened the season on the Sportsground yesterday with a five-aside tourney. Players enjoyed the games which were on the fast sido for the beginning of tho season. Results were: — A Section. First round: Palmerston North (A) y. Broadway (A), 2 —2; Broadway (C) v. Fourth, round: Combined Services and ""Palmerston North (B) win by default; Phoenix (B) v. Broadway (B), 2—l. Fifth round: Combined Services and Broadway (B) wins by default; Phoenix (B) v. In the final between the section winners, Phoenix A beat Palmerston North (B), 3—o, Y. Turner scoring all goals. The referees were: Messrs. Voss, "Wilson, Byers, Levy, Blackbourn, Lundy and Mitchell. A friendly ladies’ match was played between C. and C. and Bunnythorpc, the former winning 4 —l.

PALMERSTON NORTH VISITORS BEAT WOODVILLE hTe annual friendly game between the Campbell Street Old Boys (Palmerston North) and Woodville Hockey Clubs was played yesterday afternoon on the Woodviflo recreation ground, which was in excellent condition for hockey. After a well-contested game, in which the visiting forwards dominated the greater part of the play, Woodville lost by three goals to seven. Messrs. Mills (Palmerston North) and Foreman (Woodville) controlled the game. The visitors were entertained after the match, Mr. Inkpen extending a welcome to the Palmerston North players and expressing pleasure in renewing friendships with old comrades. Messrs. Milne and Robinson returned thanks on behalf of C. 0.8. Club.
