American Legislators Facing a Salary Cut

Members of Congress began trying their own budgets to-day when it became known the' House Economy Committee had decided to sponsor a slash in their pay as an important item in the retrenchment Bill to be submitted later in the week. The decision was made to cut the 10,000 dollar annual salaries of the Senators and Representatives ten per cent, in the event the committee’s original proposal of an 11 per cent cut, after exempting the first 1000 dollars, was not accepted by by the House. The plan was agreed upon as a part of tho House iivc-day work week and furlough without leave proposition when it was found tho President’s proposal could not be adapted to the legislative branch, which includes :-e Capitol’s establis’ nents.
