Mr. Henry Ford’s remark that there could never be over-production untb every Chinaman owned an automobile was quoted by Mr. A. Brailsford, lecturing before the Fcilding W.L.A, on Tuesday evening. The lecturer said that over-production of a particular thing at any one time often occurred, but to talk of general over-production as tho cause of the depression was simply to admit that our system of exchange and distribution had failed. We had arrived at the absurd position that our increasing powers of production spoiled our markets, ruined businesses and created unemployment and distress, instead of being used to give the people richer lives and more leisure.

“If wo had any political sense, we should use tho opportunity of the present crisis not only to get a stable monetary system, but also to change to decimal coinage and avoid tho use of our cumbrous and horribly vulgar fractions,” said Mr. J. A. Brailsford, lecturing before the Fcilding W.E.A. on “The Distress Since the War.” He mentioned the recent report that South Africa was favouring a decimal coinage.
