A JOLLY DANCE. The first of a scries of dances to be held throughout the winter and arranged by a committee of the younger members of the community, eventuated on Friday evening. The hall, decked with maize and green streamers, looked verybright and pretty, and the stage, which was used as a lounge, had for its floral adornment beautiful crimson dahlias and daisies in the same glowing shade. Bramwell’s Orchestra was in attendance and the energetic M ’s.O. were Messrs. IS. tSliand, G. 11. Rutherford and J. Cranston, The dance was well patronised and was a very bright one, and those responsible have every reason to be well pleased with the success attending their efforts. A Small Boy’s Birthday Party.

■ On Saturday afternoon a party for small boys was given by Mrs fheo. Craine at her home, “Kauui,” it being the ninth birthday of her son, Gordon. The sun shone gloriously and the little lads, bronzed by the heat of a long summer, looked the picture, of health and happiness as they arrived together on their sturdy school ponies. Merry games, dear to the heart of a small boy were played on the lawn and the afternoon sped all too swiftly by. Tea was daintily set out in the dining-room and the table with its pink chrysanthemums and cosmeas and pretty pink and white birthday cake surrounded by nine pink caudles, looked inviting indeed. The guests comprised John Williams, Terry Taylor, Wilfred Lodge, Douglas and Joe Anderson, Ronnie Gibson, Bob Clapham, Ken Jansen and Ray Barrow.
