Chile to go off Gold Standard
DEVALORISATION BILL PASSED BY DEPUTIES. San Francisco Press Broadcast. SANTIAGO DE CHILE, April 18. The Peso Devalorisation Bill, which would virtually take Chile oil the gold standard, was passed in the Chamber of Deputies to-night and was expected to be signed by President Juan Esteban Montero. The Bill would eliminate a fixed par value for the peso, suspend the conversion of currency and allow the peso to seek its natural level in the open market.
