£100,008,000 for Education in Britain
HUGE ANNUAL BlLL(British Official Wireless.) Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. RUGBY, April 19. When the Minister of Education, fc>ir Donald. Maclean, presented his departmental Estimates in tho Commons he said they provided for an Exchequer expenditure of £42,892,670 which shows an economy of £5,500,000 on last year. In 1906, tho Estimates were about £12,500,000. With the sums Taised from rates by local education authorities there is about £100,000,000 for educational purposes in Great Britain, which is more than half the total national expenditure for the year before tho War. He doubted whether there was any country in Europe to-day whose Budget contained so generous a provision for education.
Regarding the recent economics Sir Donald Maclean said there wero reductions under every head except teachers’ pensions and scholarships to students.
