Assistance to Earthquake Sufferers

Per Presa Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Minister of Finance (Hon. W. Downic Stewart) stated to-day that a number of applications for assistance under the Hawke’s Bay Earthquake Act of last year were still coming to hand, although tho closing date for the receipt of such applications was announced in February last. In order to afford an opportunity of having these applications dealt with and the work of the Rehabilitation Committee in this connection definitely finalised, tho Minister of Finance has now arranged for the committee to accept and consider the applications received up to April 30, where a valid reason is given for the delay in making them. It is to be distinctly understood that this is the last extension of time which will be granted in connection with the receipt of these applications.
