Rugby Football
The practice game between Kia Toa and Alasscy College, which was played on tho College ground on Saturday, resulted in a victory for Kia Toa, tho tin at score being 19 —10 after an open game, in which tho form of the two teams was surprisingly good. Both clubs lidded fairly strong teams and the game had not been in progress long when Cooper put the finishing touches on an attacking movement by the College backs. Kilpatrick converted and the College led by live points. Kia Toa were not long .in retaliating, however, and Heatley forced his way over from a line-out. O’Keefe failed with the kick. Shortly afterwards, the College caught Kia Toa napping from a throw-in and Apatari scored after a good run down the line. The College ) ec l §—3 at this stage, but before the interval AlcKcnzic grounded the ball after a passing rushing and O’Keefe added tho extra points to bring the scores level. Both sides were taking every opportunity of getting the backs into action and the spectators were being treated to some bright football. Just before half-time Heatley scored under the posts following a forward rush and O’Keefe again goalcd, Kia Toa then leading by live points.
Early in the second liajf Richardson scored for College, but the try was not converted. AlcKcnzic then used his weight to good effect and after breaking through near the half-way, sprinted away to score near the corner flag. The scores were 16 —11 in Kia Toa’s fav-
Gibson then grounded the ball over tho line after some lino concerted work by tho College vanguard and when Kilpatrick raised the flags with a good kick, the tgams were 10 all. Fast following up by Strange, gave Kia Toa the deciding points and they won a good game by 19 to 16. Mr. W. Glceson was the referee.
