Free Ambulance Service

SUPPORT PROM FOXTON A public meeting was held at Foxton on Tuesday evening last to discuss generally the free ambulance service. The Mayor of Foxton (Mr. M. E. I’errcau) presided, and mentioned that he had studied the matter from all points of view and was now definitely in favour of the service. The Mayor went on to say that any movement which would enable rates to be reduced was worthy of serious and favourable consideration. Ho could now clearly see that the free ambulance service was a step in tins direction, and although the saving to the ratepayers of Foxton might be only a small amount, it was at least something towards the desired objective, and in addition the service should commend itself to citizens on account of its advantages. The Mayor then called upon Mr. Francis H. Holz, superintendent of the free ambulance service, to address tho meeting. At the conclusion of his address the superintendent answered many questions relating to the subject, and after discussion Mr. F. H. Murray moved, seconded by Mr. Burns: “That this public meeting of

Foxton citizens is in favour of the free ambulance service and will on all fu turc occasions do all lit its power to assist the service in any way possible. The motion was carried unanimously. The following citizens were elected from (he meeting to form a local committee, with power to add to their number lo further the welfare of the service: The Mayor and Mayoress (Mr. and Mrs. Perreau), Mesdamcs Burns. Dicks, Lee, Honour. Misses Lee and Dicks, and Messrs. H. Osborne, Burns, King, Mairs and Murray. Mr. fc?haw was elected lion, secretary of the local committee. It was decided to send invitations to all the churches, friendly societies and other local organisations to lie present at Hie first meeting of the committee, and to co-operate with the committee for the good of the cause.
