A pleasant function was held in Wellington on Friday afternoon, when the members of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union gave a farewell tea to the retiring secretary, Mrs. Phyllis Smith. Quite a sheaf of letters from country branches were read, expressing regret that their branches were not represented, and sending best wishes. Mrs. Smith was the recipient of two floral offerings, and the Dominion president (Mrs. Jackson), on behalf of the division, presented lier with an electric travelling clock and an Indian lacquered brass tea stand. In making the presentation, Airs. Jackson referred to Airs. Smith’s many good qualities, her courtesy and kindness, and her devotion to her arduous duties as Dominion secretary. Those present were Mrs. Jackson (Dominion president), Airs. Pow (Dominion treasurer), Alesdames James, Donald, and Bunny (Alastcrton), Sutherland and D. Cameron (Martinborough), Wright and Gorringe (Levin), Livingstone (Dannevirke), Tate and Wiggins (Greytown), Ale Ivinnon (Invercargill), and L. E. Ward and Alathicson (Wellington). Miss Connor (the newly-appointed secretary) was also, present.
