From Our Own Correspondent. The Woodvillo Borough Council met on Thursday evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. J. Elder) and Councillors Mackie, Galbraith, Harding, Sullivan, Sutton, Johnston, Phelan, McGregor and Pickering. The Feilding Borough Council wrote asking for support of a resolution in favour of rebates in rates, from Highways Board special grants, being made to borough* of under 6000 population, as well as to counties. —Bcsolved to support the resolution. Woodvillo Amusements, Ltd., wrote applying for a public hall license for the Cosy theatre. As tho inspector of public buildings was not satisfied with, tho present exits he would not recommend that a license be issued. Tho matter being ono between the Cosy theatre and tho Firo Board’s inspector, Cr. Galbraith moved that the matter be deferred until the next meeting of the council.
The foreman reported as follows: Fifty cubic yards of metal have been carted and spread on the following streets: Yogel street east 5, Vogel street west 5, upper McLean street llij. Range road 12*, Hall street 5, Grey street Gi; 20 cubic yards of chips have been carted from the county crusher to Vogel street west; grit to yard 12J yards. 520 gallons of tar have been carted from the gasworks to the yard. Tho footpath in Amelia street and For street has been cleaned, ono coats of tar and sand being put on and rolled, Tho well and tunnel at the intake have been cleaned out. Two new groynes have been put in and a piece on top of old groyne on tho cliff side where it was sagging. During the month the following licenses were issued: Heavy traffic (proportion) 5, building permits 2, motor drivers 2. Tho works and linanco committee reported that a tender at £24= 10s had been accepted for the repairs to tho pavilion on the recreation ground. Tho work had been completed and the building was now in first-class order. Ih© tender of Mr. W. Robinson was accepted for the leaso of the cemetery reserve.
