Hukanui

From Our Own Correspondent. Women’s Institute. Last Friday a dance was held by the Hukanui Women’s Institute to celebrate its first birthday. Although the weather was not of the best a good attendance braved the elements and a very enjoyablo time was spent by all. Mr. L. .Nation was in attendance at the piano, and also rendered several comic songs. During the supper interval Mr. R. Mabey, on behalf of the residents of the district, congratulated the Institute on the completion of its first year, at the same time wishing it the best of luck and hoping that the annual dance ■would always be a success. On behalf of her club members, Mrs. E. A. Harrington thanked Mr. Mabey for his kind remarks, and also all present for their support on such an evening. After the birthday cake had been sampled dancing was kept going until a late hour. Miniature Rifle Shooting. The weekly shoot of the Hukanui Club was held on Monday evening last and as it was only a practice shoot there was not a record attendance, only about half the members being present. Harvest Festival. A party Prom Eketahuna presented a concert in the Public hall, after which the sale of goods was proceeded with. During the evening some records were created in the way of prices for farm produce, two cabbages bringing 15s, a plate of tomatoes 6s fid, a plate of pears 7s, three swedes 10s fid, and a pumpkin at 5s 3d being the top prices. Although hard times have aifcctod this district £9 Is 3d was realised, which is an advance on last year and is a matter of satisfaction to all concerned with tko festival. Personal. Mrs. W. Frccth is on a holiday visit to Hastings. Mrs. Inch, of Wellington, who has been spending a holiday with Mrs. F. E. Webb, Kakariki, has returned home. Mrs. Strahau, of Apiti, has left for her homo after an extended visit to Hukanui.
