Profit on Show and Position Strengthened

PEILDING A. AND P. ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT WILD CONGRATULATED The fact that the last show had revealed a small profit and that the finances of the society had been considerably strengthened during the past If’ months was made known at a. meeting of the general committee of the Feilding A. and P. Association on Friday evening, when the president (Mr. L. •). Wild) reviewed the balance-sheet, which is to be presented to the annual meeting next month. The recovery made by the association from a position which was giving the executive cause for concern was revealed in tho statement, which set out that the profit for the year was £4 3/2, after providing £ISS 15/9 for depreciation, as against a loss of £231 18/5 on the previous year. In addition, tho bank overdraft had been reduced from £lOl9 to £1442.

Tn voicing their satisfaction at the position, members paid tribute to the work of the president, to whom they attributed this excellent result. Mr. Wild stated that on taking office he had felt the need for a strengthening of the organisation, and, with the co-operation of the committee, he had outlined a policy which he considered might bring about a renewed interest in the real objects of the association. That policy had been largely followed, with results which he fc*t more than justified its adoption. It had been, none the less, a difficult year. His term of office was about to expire, and members would rccpiire to select from their number one to take over the presidency. In offering their appreciation of the great work which Mr. Wild had successfully performed for tho association, members supported Mr. TL J. Lancaster’s appeal to Mr. Wild to consider accepting office for a further term, for that was the unanimous wish of members. Mr. Wild said that the question would bo considered when nominations for the various offices were due. Report of Executive

The report of the executive committee, presented to the meeting, was as follows: — “Notwithstanding that tho grounds and buildings have been well maintained and that the amount of prize money distributed at the recent show was greater than in the previous year, we have managed to come through with a small profit, as well as to write oil a sum of £I3S 3.5/9 for depreciation. It is also to be noted that our overdraft at the bank has been reduced from £3 619 to £1442. This result must be considered very satisfactory in view of all the conditions. It is due mainly to the change in the system of administration and to the co-operation of members in connection with the staging of the show and ram fair.

“Income from membership fees and donations has again shrunk, and as the decline will presumably continue until times improve, it behoves the incoming committee to explore every avenue for reducing expenditure still fuithex. “Apart from the financial side, the annual show- appears to have been voted a success. For this happy result grateful thanks are offered to a. large body of helpers, which includes not. only the general committee, the night show committee, the otticials and the ladies who helped so splendidly with the catering; not onlv the large body of exhibitors who simply defied the depression and made a record entry of high quality stock;' but also the general public of Fcilding and tho district who entered heartily and happily into the spirit of the show and helped for the time being to dispel the economic gloom. "The night show, although showing only a small money profit, must be accounted a very valuable feature of this year’s show, in that it has helped to carry all overhead charges, and also it. has helped to secure the income from the sideshow men and generally to increase interest in the show. The committee, therefore, has abundant reason to be grateful for the great amount of time and energy contributed by Mr. 1. Collins towards the night show.”
