Monthly Meeting of Y.W.C.A. Board
The monthly' meeting of the Board of Directors of the Palmerston North Y.W.C.A. was held in the hostel yesterday. Present were Mcsdamcs Binelair (in the chair), Ferguson, Phillips, Mouldcy', Pointon, Miss Cameron and the secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mcsdamcs Ruthcrfurd, Oliver, Barnett, Misses Fitzgerald and Forrest. Mrs. N. West wrote tendering her resignation from the board and girls’ work committee owing to her departure from Palmerston North. It was received with regret, the sccrotary being instructed to write to Mrs. West expressing The thanks and appreciation of the board for her valuable services during
the past year. It was unanimously' decided to support the request of the National office that convention be held this year. It was felt that there was a tendency today to approach national crises in a pessimistic ‘ and destructive spirit, which is entirely foreign to a true faith in God and His purposes, ' and that as one of the great Christian movements of the world the Y.W.C.A. should be putting renewed vigour and intelligence into adapting its work to the needs of girls to-day. In order to do this it was necessary to get together in convention to sec the association’s part in character building and service for girls at this time and to carry it out with renewed faith and
courage. The financial statement, for mo month was adopted and tho accounts passed for payment. The matron reported there had been IS permanents and 50 casuals at the hostel during March and that the health of all residents had been good. Thanks were passed to Mrs. Mouldey, who twice during the month had organised bridge parties in her home to raise funds for the association.
The secretary reported on the work of the month and also gave an account of the Girl Citizen camp held at Foxton at Easter time. Thanks were auc to all who helped to make it such a success, but especially to Miss Jeanne Edwards, who gave nnstintingly of licr time and energy. It was decided to hold a jumble sale at the end of the month, and in view
of Miss Stevenson's visit, to hold the board meeting on May G instead of on the 13th. The rest of the meeting was taken up in a discussion of plans for Miss Stevenson’s visit and for the street day. During a break in the business of the afternoon, tea was served by the matron.
