Wairarapa Farmers Short of Feed
ASK FOR £20,000 ADVANCE. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. A request that the Government should arrange with the Rural Intermediate Credit Board to advance £20,000 to Wairarapa dairy farmers in order to purchase fodder during the winter was made to the Minister of Agriculture (Hon. C. E. Macmillan) by a deputation representing tho Wairarapa provincial executive of the I'armors’ Union. It was stated that the loan could be arranged on a business footing without cost to the State and that it would be repayable out of cream cheques next season. The deputation was introduced by Mr. W. J. Poison, M.P., president of the Farmers’ Union, who said tho dry season in the Wairarapa had proved very serious and farmers of the district were up against it. Thoy had a proposition to put before tho Government which would not cost the State anything. It was essential that something should oe done to help dairy herds through the winter.
The Minister promised to approach the necessary authorities with a view to assisting the farmers concerned as soon as possible.
