HUGH LfHOOL BOARD OP GOVERNORS MEETS Mr. W. L. Fitzhcrbcrt (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the Palmerston North High Schools Board of Governors, held last evening. There were also present Mrs. J. Aitchison and Messrs. W. F. Durward, J. W. Ruthcrfurd and T. R. Hodder. Mrs. M. Rhodes (principal of tho Girls’ High School) and Messrs. J. Murray (rector of the Boys’ High School) and G. G. Hancox (director of the Technical School) were also in attendance.
Technical School Mr. Hancox asked for authority to send letters of thanks to all those who had assisted in the matter of providing temporary accommodation, and he particularly mentioned Messrs. Collinson and Cunninghamc, who had let the Technical School have the use of the Scout HalL free of charge.—Granted. The Director of Education (Mr. T. B. Strong) iwrote to tho effect that it had been ascertained that adequate training in commercial work was now obtainable at- the Levin High School and at the Fcilding Agricultural High School respectively, and in view of this it would bo necessary for those commercial pupils travelling from Levin and Feilding cither to attend the local schools or to pay their own faros to Palmerston North. Ho added that tho new regulation would come into force ns from the beginning of the second term. Boys’ High School
Mr. Murray submitted the following report concerning the Boys’ High School: The roll number is SOS and the average attendance is 357. The ordinary routine is proceeding satisfactorily in work and in play. The term ends on May 0. Tho chairman reported at length on the conference of delegates representing tho secondary schools boards of governors, held in Wellington, and a motion of thanks io Mr. Fitzhcrbcrt for his work on behalf of the Palmerston North Board of Governors was carried.
Girls’ High School The principal of tho Girls’ High School (Mrs. M. Rhodes) reported as follows: “Tho roll is 25$ and the average attendance 247.25. Miss S. <l. Robinson, M.A., of Dunedin, who was appointed to fill the position vacated by Miss Eastwood, took up her duties on April .1. Miss F. E. Rainforth, M.A., who held a grade D position at the school, has accepted a grade 0 position on the staff of the Dunedin Girls’ High School. The grounds arc in excellent order. We arc preparing for winter sports, which will soon bo in full swing.’’ Tho secretary was instructed to forward a letter of thanks to Messrs. A. J. Berryman and Co. for the loan of a panatrope.
