Dairying in Kairanga

D.P.U. ACTIVITIES, AVith the object of re-organising the Kairanga branch of the Dairy Farmers' Union, a meeting was held at Kairanga on Wednesday evening. Air. N. Campbell presided and apologies for absence were received from Messrs. D. Collis, A. Morcom and J. A. Russell. The chairman emphasised the manifold benefits of membership, as well as the achievements accomplished as the outcome of the union’s activities.

Discussing the approaching Ottawa Conference, the chairman stated that it was fraught with the greatest importance for New Zealand, which it was considered should bo represented by Rt. Hon. G. AY. Forbes, lit. Hon. J. G. Coates and Sir James Parr. He stated that it was inevitable that the Dominion would have to grant tariff concessions on imports from Great Britain if the latter was to purchase New Zealand’s dairy produce, meat and wool. It was suggested that the Kairanga branch be reformed, as it was considered that good support would be forthcoming. Mr. A. It. Buchanan said there was very general satisfaction at tho service "iven the farming community by the chairman, whose work was greatly appreciated. The general opinion was that the union was functioning very satisfactorily and that thcro was no need for direct representation of Kairanga, and no action was taken owing to the attendance at the meeting being small.
