The Times’ Buenos Aires correspondent says tlie rain of ashes from the Andean volcanoes ceased to-day almost as abruptly as it began on Sunday. It covered the Argentine pampas with a snowlike blanket inches deep for 700 miles over a strip 400 miles wide. Dozens of the volcanoes in eruption have quieted sufficiently for the regular air service to Chile to resume. No deaths from tho eruption have been reported thus far, and opinion varies as to whether the ashes will prove harmful. Their effect on the health of cattle is believed to depend on the early rains to' wash out and revivify the pastures. It i s ploughing season now, and it is expected that, when ploughed under, the ashes will prove highly beneficial on account of their potash content.
