Women's Institutes.
KOPANE. The Kopano Women’s Institute held the monthly meeting on April 9, when Mrs Russell presided over a fair attendance. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute song “The Ode to Friendship.” The points prize tor the year’s competition was won by Mrs Dawber, with Mrs 0. Jones second, while the afternoon competition was won by Mrs Jones, blisses Odgers and Roddy second and Mrs Glasgow third. Mrs. Conwall and Mrs. Russell were appointed delegates to the half-yearly meeting t.o be held in Palmerston North. It was decided to hold a euchre party in May to raise funds for the dominion conference. The members were also asked to dig, weigh, and send in potatoes before the next mcctr ing. Mr McDowall gave a very interesting demonstration on the preparing of boxes for seed planting, and the various stages through which the plants have to go before being ready to transplant into the open ground; also the grafting and layering of plants and shrubs. This was followed with a short talk on the treatment of different varieties of bulbs. A very hearty vote of thanks was accorded the speaker. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Defer and Dawber, who presided over the afternoon tea, after which the meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem.
