Unemployed Workers' Movement
At a meeting of the unemployed workers’ movement in Palmerston North last evening it was decided to withdraw Air. Dixon as the representative of the unemployed on the Palmerston North Unemployment Committee, Air. Poyliter being appointed in his stead. Arrangements were made to send four delegates to a confcrcnco to bo held in Wellington under the auspices of tho National Unemployed Workers' Movement. A donation of £2 IDs was received from the workers at tho Longburn freezing works, and a motion of thanks was carried. Tho following resolutions were passed: —That all branches of tho civil service be approached requesting their affiliation with the Unemployed Workers’ Alovement; that a letter bo sent to the secretary of the Labour Representation Committee and the Palmerston North Unemployment Committee giving reasons for the recall of Air. Dixon from the Unemployment Committee, and notifying the new appointment; that the Palmerston North Unemployment Committee be asked to support a resolution opposing a 40-hour week at relief rates of wages.
