Great Peppermint Plantation
Experiments having shown that moorlands in Bavaria, particularly the Erdinger moor, near Munich, is especially well adapted for raising peppermint, a beginning is to be made by planting some 60 acres with this herb and building a plant for distilling peppermint oil. The plant will be fired with peat, obtained from the moor.
Up to now all the peppermint oil required for tho use of German industry has had to be imported. How great the requirements are is indicated by the fact that a single firm in Dresden imports 20 long tons of this oil yearly for making tooth paste. To produce this amount, 6000 acres of peppermint aro needed.
