New Metal for Old

JEWELLERY GOES TO THE FURNACE GOLD WON FROM MANY SOURCES. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, Jan. 1. A “gold rush” is occurring at a Hatton Gardens furnace, where thousands of pounds’ worth of old brooches, bangles, rings and cigarette cases are begin melted daily. Apart from patriotic gifts to the Exchequer, the opportunity to make handsome profits is inducing people throughout the country to pour in jewellery to gold dealers, who put it out in the shape of hundredweights of glistening gold bars, going some to the Bank of England, some to bullion brokers, and some to France and America. Largo quantities of hoarded gold ornaments from India, Siam and Ceylon are finding their way to the same furnaces.
