Stirring Up Chinese Patriotism

History was made during the holidays when Marshal Peng Yuh Siang, the so-called Christian general and a former outlaw militarist and Kuominchavng faction leader, conducted a whirlwind speechmaking tour at Shanghai exhorting the public to support tho resistance to Japan. Feng, who plodged. his support to the Nanking Government, offered his services to the Kuominchang army. He denounced the last Government, naively deplored internecine warfare am cl advocated the forcible restoration of China’s . lost territory. A few years ago there was a price on Feng’s head. Now he is lionized everywhere. The change demonstrates the patriotic feeling stirring the Chinese people. Japanese troops entered Chinchow at six this morning, the vanguard consisting of cavalry and two armoured trains commanded by Major-General Ycshimura. The final stage from Koapangtze was accomplished without resistance, the Chinese regulars withdrawing and permitting free entry to the Japanese. Chinchow is in great confusion and the invaders found it necessary to declare martial law and assume absolute control. Japs Mission. Accompflished Received Monday, 1 a»m. TOKYO, Jan. 3. The Chinchow occupation being accomplished and Chinese regulars having withdrawn from Manchuria it is reported that the Japanese troops have been ordered to withdraw to Mukden while a brigade is returning to Korea.
