Fire at Thames
GOOD SAVE BY BRIGADE. Per Press Association. THAMES, Jan. 2. Fire broke out at 1.5 o ’clock this morning in a block of two-storey wooden shops in Pollen street. It started through an unknown cause in premise:; occupied by Mr. Charles Hunting, electrician. Tho buildings were all old, having replaced premises destroyed by tho big lire of IS7U. A fairly strong wind was blowing and it looked as if the whole block would go, but with a good water supply tho brigade made a remarkably good save. The wind dropped during the conflagration, which greatly aided their work. At one time it was feared that the Baptist Church at the rear of Court’s drapery store would catch. Much damage was dono by lire and water.
