CHARLES ROGERS IN “HEADS UP” During reproduction of a comedy sequence in “Heads Up,” a talking and singing picture with Charles Rogers heading a groat cast, it was accessary to record the squawking of a flock of geese. The big birds were brought to one of the stages, and while cameras and microphones were being adjusted they made the day hideous with their noise. But by the timo everything was in readiness for recording, they had become used to their surroundings aod-re-treated into an. obdurate silence, ,'The sound recording machines were started, while property men executed all their tricks to get the geese to hiss or honk. Not. a sound was forthcoming, and 1000 ft. of film was wasted. In desperation, studio employees chased the birds About, kbo stages, knocked over chairs and boxes, etood on their heads and yelled. The geese regarded them in distaste and stoic silence as the costly film clicked steadily through the recorders. At last a genius among property men,
had an idea. He took an old gander into a dark corner far away from liis wives, and left him alone. For secvral minutes the bird remained mute. Then loneliness overpowered him and he lot out a questioning squawk. Tho others reassured him in a. chorus, and the -microphones, after an hour of waiting, finally■ caught, the necessary 70ft. of film. A matinee will bo held to-day at £.30 p.m.
