Finland, after 12 years’ experience of prohibition, overwhelmingly voted by referendum in favour of a return of liquor licenses. Enormous crowds cheerod the figuros outside the newspaper offices, -while hotels and restaurants flew flags in honour of the result. Students, touring tho city in motor cars, gave tots of whisky to all and sundry, including policemen, who a few days ago would have arrested offenders. Waiters themselves offered drinks to customers in restaurants, crowds toasting the first really happy New Year’s Eve for 12 years.
