met at Palmerston North yesterday, Mr F. J. Foster presiding. It was resolved that a special meeting be held in a fortnight's time to discuss the matter of rates. The overseer reported that work was being continued on No. 1 drain but completion could not be reached until the water receded.
“Tho cheese industry has had a worse time during the past year than for butter, ’ ’ stated Mr. S. A. Broadbelt at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Association in Palmerston North yesterday. “The troubles of the cheese companies may or may not be duo to standardising," he added. “I will not express an opinion on that matter, but I do think that the cheese market has been considerably aifected by coming into competition with cheap meat.'' “We must keep a smiling face and not be pessimistic, although I do not think that things will return to normal this year, but we are not alone in our troubles. The whole world is the same," declared the chairman (Mr. S. A. Broadbelt.) at the annual meeting of the Manawatu and West Coast Dairy Association yesterday. “It is just a question of good management along the right lines," he added in expressing the opinion that there was still plenty of room for the expansion of dairy markets in the Old Country,
