Solicitor’s. Defalcations Total £200,000
POUR YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT
United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright, ltcccivcd Thursday, 7.30 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 13. A prominent solicitor, William Clegg, and Mrs. Smith his clerk, indicted on many charges of fraud and misrepresentation, were conrictcd at the quarter sessions after a prolonged trial. The woman was recommended to mercy. Clegg was sentenced to four years' imprisonment and Mrs. Smith, was released on a bond to bo of good bebehaviour for three years. The judge said it was quite obvious she came under the control and influence of Clegg whoso defalcations according to the police amount to £200,000.
