MANAWATU ASSOCIATION’S ELEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING

Tho Rev. C. H. Isaaesou of Otaki, presidod over the annual general meotmg of the Manawatu Croquot Association held yesterday afternoon, there being an attendance of approximately 20 delegates representative of ail clubs. Several apologies for unavoidable absence were received. Annual Review. The annual tournament was held in November, 1930, malting two tournaments iu ono year on the Manawatu, Northern and Takaro greens. \lhe following were the winners: Champion singles: Mrs. Anstis (lak- ' Champion doubles: Mesdames Caldow and Butcher (Wellington). Handicap doubles: Mesdames Bimraons and Bcnicll (Manawatu). Handicap singles: A grade, Airs. Anstis (Takaro); B grade, Airs. Radford championship: Airs. Benfell (Manawatu). T , , “C" championship: Airs. Lglmton (Northern). In tho inter-club matches the banner was won by Oroua, Foilding, with 23/ points. Levin came second with -83 points. A successful gala day was he at Terrace Eud when tho banner was presented to Oroua, also Silver Buttons. The Silver Buttons, donated by the Croquet Council, were won by: A grade, Airs. Anstis (Takaro); B grade, Aliss Tennant (Takaro); C grade, Airs. Price (Oroua, Foilding). The holders of the Oorbndgo Stars are: Mesdames Honore and Davidson (Terrace End); the Pollock Stars ALesdames Turner and Aitken (Oroua, Feilding); the Benuett Buttons, Mesdames Tucker and Cook (Northern), the Brighton Mallets, Mesdames Hall and Walker (Levin). The committee wish to express their thanks to the auditor, Mr. A. D. Campbell, also to tho Palmerston North Croquet Clubs for the use of their greens during the season, and to the referees for their untiring work at all matches. The financial statement shows a credit of £l3. The report was adopted, a hearty vote of thanks being accorded the hon. secretary for her splendid service during the past season. Election of Officers.

The election of officers for the ensuing year resulted as follow: President! Airs. W. E. Mayes; vice-presi-dents, Mesdames Gainbrill and Robertson and the Rev. C. H. Isaacson; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mrs. C. A. B. Ferguson; auditor, Mr. A. D. Campbell, official handicapper and also referee, Airs. Gambrill; delegate to council, Mts. Mayes; assistant-kan dicappers, Alesdames Mayes, Seroggs, Cronin and the Rev. Archdeacon Creed-Meredith, and Rev. Isaacson; referees, Alesdames Anstis, Mayes, Seroggs, Corbridge Robertson, Gambrill, Mayes, H. Brown, Turner, Jamieson. General.

The Hew Zealand Croquet Council, in view of tho recent death of its secretary, the late Mr. C. A. E. Ferguson, wrote pointing out that temporary arrangements had been made to fill the vacant position until the annual meeting in January next. It was pointed out that compilation of the annual publication, which had been in the hands of the late secretary, was being completed by Mrs. Ferguson, who was to be thanked for her generous action.— It was resolved, after some discussion, that the Manawatu Association express its disapproval of the method adopted in appointing the temporary acting-secretary. It was resolved that the association’s tournament commence on February 2, 1932. It was mentioned that the North Island tourney was being held at Palmerston North in January next and subsequently the Dominion fixture at Wanganui. By a good majority it was decided that the Manawatu chajfipionship singles be made an open event. Mrs. Ferguson was appointed to control the fixture.
