Manawatu Successful In Nopera Cup Match

DANNEVIRKE DEFEATED BY THREE GOALS TO NIL

Tho Manawatu representative ladies’ hockey team journeyed to Dannevirke yesterday to meet Rualiino in a challenge gamo for the Nopera Cup, which was held by Rualiino. Though the weather was not at all propitious, there being a heavy wind for tho first three parts of the game and rain for the remainder, a fast and interesting contest resulted, tho challengers finally taking the honours by three goals to nil. Manawatu played with tho wind in. the first half and at tho interval were leading by one goal, Miss Hakaraia being the scorer. There had been little between the teams up _ to this stage. In tho second half the high standard of play was maintained, Manawatu increasing their lead to three before tho final whistle. The second goal was secured by Mrs. Seal after a magnificent piece of play. The movement was instituted by Miss McKenzie, who took the ball up-field and then passed right across the field to tho other wing, Miss Hall. The latter gathered in tho pass and centred to Mrs. Seal, vvho found the net with a great shot. The third goal was secured by Miss W. Ranson,. who found the net from a penalty corner. Mrs. Hape was outstanding for Ruahinc and she played a wonderful game. For Manawatu, the play of Misses Mary Scott (full back), M. Godfrey (halt), Ranson (inside right) and Mrs. Seal (centre forward) is worthy of special mention. The game was ably controlled by Messrs. Wilson. and. Carson.

The Nordern Cup—the men's minor association trophy —is also held by the Manawatu representatives.
