THE FUTURE OF BROADCASTING
Listeners’ Interests MORE INFORMATION REQUESTED Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Aug. 11. A letter hie., has been forwarded to the Postmaster-General by the Associated Chambers of Commerce of New Zealand states that, owing to the la k of full and detailed information of the operations of the present Broadcasting Company under its existing license, the Association is unable to urge a s ecific policy on the Government in regard to the future conduct of broadeasti-.g. If tho Government intends itself to conduct the broadcasting business then the Association urges that its conduct should 1 e on lines identical with that by the British Broadcasting Corporation, which has all the privileges and responsibilities of a private company. If, however, it is intended to grant .. license similar to that now existing, then the Association suggests that there should first bo a full public disclosure of the operations of the present company under the existing license and of the result of those operations. The Association suggests that bal-ance-sheets and a profit and loss statement of the present Company should be published together with the fullest possible information in regard to—(a) the capitalisation of company, (b) the revenue and expenditure of the company, (c) the depreciation and reserve funds of the company, (d) the transactions between the company and its allied companies. The Association urges that the public, and more parti- tlarly the listeners who supply means of carrying ,n the broadcasting business, are entitled to know fully how their license fees are expend ;d and exactly what results have accrued to the i ompany that is granted this monopoly and all its associates.
