Good batting by Lowry, Dompster, Vivian and Blunt give the New .. aland cricketers a rospcctable first innings lead in tho match against Glop ''ctershire. Play was resumed at 2.15 after stoady rain in the morning. _ , Mills was dismissed by Rogers witn a fast medium height ball, which came in quickly. Dempster and Vivian added 75 runs *for the second wicket. Iho lattor attacked bowling confidently and hit sixes off Goddard and Sinfield. He was caught in attempting to steer the ball to leg. He batted 57 minute-. Dempster was caught by the wicketkeeper after' an admirable all-round display. He showed no loss of form after his enforced rest. His innings lasted 98 minutes. Weir and Page were dismissed m rapid succession. A fine partnership betweon Lowry and Blunt added 127 for the sixth wicket and played New Zealand into a strong position. Lowry played a typical attacking innings and showed considerable skill in hitting Parker to leg against the spin, lie was exceedingly unfortunate to miss Iris century. He batted 85 minutes and hit nine fours. Parker took three cheap wickets before stumps were drawn, when Blunt was undefeated after a stoady defensive innings.
