At yesterday’s meeting of the Ivairanga Comity Council Mr. L. C. Pickering, who has been acting-engineer for the past three months, Avas appointed overseer of tho county.
Tho decision of the Palmerston North City Council to have carried out a revaluation of the toAvn has brought into relief a new duty which citizens aro called upon to perform. In past years, Avhen a valuation of the toAvn has been necessary, it has been the practice of the council to appoint the assessor itself. More recent legislation, however, makes it incumbent upon the council to call a meeting of ratepayers, on Avhom will devolve the responsibility of selecting an assessor. This is a statutory obligation under the [Valuation of Land Act.
