MANAWATU RACING CLUB. REPORT ON THE YEAR. The following report will be submitted by the president (Mr. C. Louisson) at the annual meeting of the Manama tu Racing Club:—“lt should be noted,” states the report, “that the income and expenditure account includes the two. days winter racing meeting conducted by the club in 1930, the figures, therefore, covering seven days’ racing this year as against live days in previous years. The decrease in all classes of revenue received by the club can be attributed to the unprecedented -world-wide financial depression from which our own country b.as not escaped. The totalisator turnover for the two days' winter meeting, 1930, amounted to £25,692. The turnover for the Summer meeting, 1931, was £110,132, as against £171,124 for these two meetings in the previous season, the decrease being £60,992, or approximately 35.6 per . cent. The .turn- , over for these two meetings is the lbw-

est recorded since 1911. The iueome and expenditure account shows a loss on the year’s -working of £1954 IJs 9d, after -writing off the sum of £782 for depreciation. No permanent improvements at the racecourse have been undertaken during the year, the expenditure being reduced to work nceossary for the preservation of the buildings and other appointments in a reasonable state of repair. The training tracks and facilities have been well maintained, and many favourable comments were received during the year from visiting owners and trainers. Your committee applied for and the club was granted an additional two days’ totalisator license for the past season, the license being used for a winter meeting on the 22nd and 23rd duly, 1931. Owing to the severe depression referred to above and to unfavourable weather conditions, the result was not as satisfactory as anticipated. Your committee records, with deep regret, the death during the year of the following members of the club: Messrs. H. E. Best, and H. G. Wilton. Messages of condolence were sent to the relatives concerned. Your committee desire to thank the honorary officials and permanent staff for the efficient manner in which they have carried out their various duties.”
